Iveco Transfers Its Defence Business to Leonardo
The transaction will create a European champion in the land defence segment with the scale and capabilities to compete globally. According to plan, the net proceeds of the sale will be distributed to the company’s shareholders through an extraordinary interim dividend. The Defence Business Unit has been classified as “Discontinued Operations” since Q3 of 2025. “This milestone marks a pivotal moment for the future of IDV and ASTRA. Our colleagues have shown remarkable dedication in meeting the growing demands for land defence vehicles and the technologies that we have developed. They will now become part of a group with the scale and integrated capabilities necessary to compete in all scenarios, and we heartily wish them continued success,” commented Olof Persson, CEO of Iveco Group. “The acquisition strengthens our position as a leading player in the land defence sector and enhances our competitiveness in a market offering significant long-term growth potential. Through this transaction, Leonardo acquires the industrial capabilities required to deliver fully integrated platforms, spanning both mobility and payload, and takes a further step forward in inorganic growth strategy, one of the pillars underpinning the execution of our Industrial Plan,” stated Roberto Cingolani, CEO and General Manager of Leonardo. The acquisition also boosts joint commercial positioning, leveraging the complementary nature of the2 companies’ sales networks and the ability to offer integrated solutions in high-potential markets. The separation of the Defence Business from Iveco Group is a condition, inter alia, to the completion of the voluntary tender offer by Tata Motors Limited for all issued common shares of Iveco Group. Iveco Group’s Defence Business (IDV and ASTRA brands) has been separated from the Iveco Group and reorganised under a single Italian holding company, IDV Group S.r.l. Leonardo has acquired 100% of the share capital of IDV Group S.r.l.
