Epiroc Launches ET55 Drill String, the Successor to ST58

Epiroc is expanding its next-generation ET drill string family with the launch of Epiroc ET55. The new drill string is the successor to the established Epiroc ST58 system and enables a shoulder drive connection throughout the entire drill string.

Epiroc ET55 brings the design principles and customer benefits of the ET drill string family to applications previously served by Epiroc ST58. Its shoulder drive design allows more energy to be transferred into the rock while reducing vibration in the drill string and rig.

Like Epiroc ET66, ET55 is designed with shoulder drive connections throughout the drill string. This makes it a natural next step for customers using Epiroc ST58 and extends the ET offering into another important size segment.

“ET55 is the true successor to the ST58 drill string. It enables a shoulder drive connection throughout the entire drill string, giving customers access to the benefits of the ET design in applications where ST58 has traditionally been used,” said Fredrik Gransell head of Strategic marketing – Tophammer drilling tools at Epiroc.

The ET drill string family has been developed to improve durability and reliability while reducing unplanned stops caused by drill string failure. Its thread geometry also supports easier uncoupling and fewer stuck tubes, contributing to improved drilling time, uptime and operator safety.

Epiroc ET55 joins ET66, ET51, ET45 and ET38 in Epiroc’s growing ET drill string portfolio. ET66, ET45 and ET38 were introduced in 2024 as part of Epiroc’s next generation of drill strings, following extensive modelling, laboratory testing and field trials.

“With Epiroc ET55, we are adding another important part of the ET portfolio. Customers currently using ST58 can now transition to a drill string designed around the same shoulder drive principle throughout the complete system,” said Martin Karlsson, vice president Tophammer solutions at Epiroc.
